Ianus Quintessence Mono Block Amplifiers
“The Ianus QuintEssence, just like the rest of the Ianus Series amplifiers, uses TriodeFet technology. In contrary to the bigger Geminae model, the QuintEssence like the smaller Essentia use the TriodeFet active element in a very different topology, as this is a Single Stage -Single Ended design.” - Stavros Danos, Designer
The Design Concept
The QuintEssence is not just a higher powered version of the Single Stage-Single ended amplifier concept , used in the Essentia (and Aperio integrated).
Instead, it is a (rev-)evolution of the TriodeFet technology , taking the performance of this unique active element to even higher level.
This new generation of the TriodeFet presents transfer curves with higher fidelity to the curves of the tube used to “copy” the transfer tube.In a way, it is more close to the ideal tube transfer curves than the previous gen of the TriodeFet.
Just like the Ianus Essentia ,the QuintEssence amplifier is not only Single Ended, it is also a Single Stage! Incredibly there is no driver stage and no input stage! This extremely simple topology we feel is a breakthrough in amplifier design, and is an elusive design goal for many, including our lab. It is only possible to execute now as we are finally able to use an active element that has the needed specifications for the purpose: Extremely high linearity, high voltage gain, high current gain and very high input impedance.
System flexibility
Inputs include our proprietary AC link input, as well (as standard) a Transformer Volume Control (TVC) variable gain input, which is also found on the bigger brother, with 6 level selection. This allows the use of standard gain preamplifiers and high gain (Aries Cerat preamplifiers).
True balanced XLR inputs are also standard.
Triode or solid state?
The triode-like transfer curves of the next Generation TriodeFet used in the QuintEssence elevates the performance of the new Ianus amplifier to surpass the the very best Single Ended tube amplifiers. The superb midrange , treble, accurate timbre and immersive soundstage that we expect from big bottle tube amplification are taken to another level..
As with all the Ianus Series amplifiers, it is also able to deliver more current than their tube counterparts, and are essentially maintenance free as the internal tubes used for curve creation are rated at 10,000 hours lifespan. Its unique single stage nature means that it is as sonically transparent as it can get. The amplifier power delivery is 60W (8ohm) full class A.
